Pima Lodge #10
Widows and Orphans Program
Purpose: As Free & Accepted Masons, we are obligated to care for our Masonic Brothers, their widows and orphans. A well thought out and targeted widows and orphans program enables us to better serve and come to the aid of our widows and orphans, thus letting them know that they are not forgotten and remain valued members of our Masonic Family.
Scope: To implement and maintain a program that will enable each individual Master Mason of Pima Lodge # 10 to demonstrate his fidelity to the obligations he took upon himself to help, aid and assist widows and orphans. Adopting an active widows and orphans program would ensure that the Lodge does stay in regular communication with them and offer assistance should the need arise.
Goals: To HELP, AID, and ASSIST our widows when called upon. This is one of the most sacred obligations resting on every Lodge and upon every Master Mason worthy of the title which has been conferred upon him. This duty directly relates to the widows and orphans of our lodge for which you have sworn your assistance. It provides both the foundation and structure of this program.
- Bring any issues, concerns or needs of the widow and/or orphan to the Lodge for consideration (i.e., start up a swamp cooler, fix a broken appliance, do minor car or yard work). All within the Lodge’s capabilities and not assuming liability
- Personally invite widows and/or orphans to all public Lodge functions/events
- Maintain a list of all widows and orphans, and appropriate contact information
- Send regular correspondence to all widows and/or orphans informing them of activities at the Lodge and surrounding areas
- Provide the widows with a Widows Pin and Membership Card
- Arrange transportation, if needed, to the Lodge’s public activities (i.e., public installation, appreciation dinners)
- Inform widows and/orphans about the program
- Provide holiday baskets to each widow and/or orphan
- Ensure birthday cards are sent to widows and/or orphans on behalf of the Lodge
- Schedule an annual Widows and Orphan Lunch/Dinner
- Honor the wishes of any widow who does not want to be a part of this program
My dear brothers, Freemasonry is continuously faced with many challenges in the hectic world in which we live. We must never forget that our first priority is to our families. We should never forget the widows and orphans of our departed brothers. We welcomed them and enjoyed their friendship along with our departed brothers. This relationship should never end with the passing of our brothers. This Masonic Widows and Orphans Program is to help our Lodge keep in touch with our fallen brother’s immediate family. It will show them that they are not alone and are still a vital part of our Lodge.
